The PIO nutrition programme has been funded by JWI since they first started supporting PIO in 2004. Nutrition is one of the pillars that underpins the JWI philosophy of support for education. The program evolved from the provision of bread and snacks to where it is today with every child having access to a nutritious free lunch every school day. The lunch is made up of a soup and rice. The soup is made from vegetables and meat.
In 2015 the programme was extended to Borey Santepheap 2 and also to the PIO staff. The teachers now also get to enjoy the good food prepared by the PIO cooks.
Each school has a dedicated cook and an assistant who prepares the school lunches every day with fresh produce from the local market. The effectiveness of the program is reflected in the good health of the children. The children enjoy their PIO lunch and for some of them it will be the most nutritious meal they have each day.
