English is not a part of the Cambodian curriculum for primary schools, however there is a strong demand for English lessons because fluency in English provides greater employment and study opportunities for Cambodian students.

At all three schools there are English classes operating for three hours per day. At Stung Meanchey English classes are attended by students in the afternoon. At the Borey Keila and at Borey Santepheap 2 there are morning and afternoon sessions, with students attending public school for the half of the day when they are not at PIO. High school classes study English as part of the high school curriculum. The curriculum for Grade 1 - Grade 6 is based on the “Let’s Go books. The high school English curriculum is set by the Ministry.of Education, Youth and Sport.

Students are assessed each month and the results are included in the six-monthly reports to the Ministry of Education, Youth and Sport.

The school at Stung Meanchey is the largest of the three schools and the center of PIO. There are English classes for students from Kindergarten to Grade 8. In addition there is a Math’s in English class for Grade 6 and high school students.

The English program at Borey Keila has recently been restructured to provide greater flexibility to meet the needs of their students. There are now four levels Kindergarten, which is the beginners class and then Levels 1 to 3 for students as they advance in their studies. For the part of the day when they are not studying at PIO the students attend national curriculum classes at a public school.

At Borey Santepheap 2 there is only two English class (Kindergarten and Grade 4), The other classes are held at Stung Meanchey. Then children are transported in the PIO bus and truck from their village to Stung Meanchey each day. Attending classes at Stung Meanchey allows them to study the national curriculum subjects as well as English without having to change schools each half day.
