Recently PIO in Cambodia has converted unused space in the Stung Mean Chey playground into a garden. Built by the students, the garden will enable students to learn gardening and horticultural skills.
Work started in April before Khmer New Year with the construction of planter boxes and fencing. Planting of seeds has been done and the plants are growing fast.
Immediately after Khmer New Year work began preparing a larger area at the back of the new garden area. Digging down to nearly 1m Teacher Chumnor and the boys in Grade 6 are clearing out the out the clay ready for a load of topsoil to make another larger garden.
The produce from the garden will be sold to the local community to help raise funds for other school projects at PIO Cambodia particularly vocational training.
