Each year, the kids at PIO are fortunate to get a free dental check up by KIDS (Kids International Dental Service). Last week the KIDS group set up at PIO for 3 days to treat over 800 children. Work of this magnitude is done by a team of dental experts from abroad (mainly the US) headed by Dr. Bob Renner and Purobi Phillips. The fundamental mission of KIDS (Kids International Dental Services) is to provide pro-bono dental care to impoverished children in developing countries.
The conditions were extreme with temperatures in the mid 30’s and so many eager children lining up. Dr. Bob initially diagnoses each child and then refers them to the appropriate station. It takes a team of volunteers to ensure the operation goes smoothly and KIDS traveled with a group of dental volunteers. By the end of each day over 250 children are examined, diagnosed, treated with fluoride, and if needed have an extraction done.
Thanks to Dr. Bob, Purobi, and all the KIDS volunteers and team members for another successful KIDS mission to PIO. Also a huge thanks to Ian Kydd Miller for the use of his images.
